Rose Coffee has been buying from Janson Coffee in Panama since 2021, first visiting in 2022. Each year their lots deliver two things: consistency and exceptional quality. This 2025 harvest offers a slightly lighter and more complex profile compared to past years where there was more intensity.
THE PRODUCER
Kai and Janette Janson are the driving forces behind Janson Family Estates, operating from the town of Volcan where generations of the Janson family have cultivated coffee. The Los Alpes farm sits at around 1800m, about a 30-minute drive from their processing facility, offering ideal growing conditions for their Green Tip Geisha.
The Janson farm dates back to 1926 when Swedish immigrant Carl Axel Janson settled in Panama and fell in love with the land. Today, three generations of the Janson family run operations, maintaining a commitment to quality production in harmony with the environment — no pesticides, no herbicides, with plantations separated by forests serving as natural barriers.
THE PROCESS
The Natural process at Janson Coffee involves:
- 🍒 Harvest — Cherries hand-picked at peak ripeness
- 🧪 Fermentation — Small fermentation in grain pro bags
- ☀️ Drying — Dried in cherry on a mix of patio and raised beds
The cherries are brought down to lower altitude where it's warmer and drier to aid the drying process, resulting in a profile of yellow and orange fruits with high, clear sweetness and lovely florals throughout.
