INTRO

Roberto Brenes founded the project in 2006 after a long career in finance. The Auromar Estate is a Brenes-Eleta family initiative, established to produce high-quality Geishas and other premium Arabica coffees in an eco-friendly and sustainable environment.

THE PRODUCER

Auromar's Finca La Aurora spans 30.5 hectares, with 14.5 hectares allocated for coffee cultivation in the lower elevations and the remaining 16 hectares preserved as a pristine highland tropical forest. The cultivated area is designed to balance coffee production with forest conservation.

Shade is provided by native tree species and high-altitude Hass avocado trees, creating a stable microclimate with minimal temperature fluctuations. The coffee cherries benefit from low humidity between December and January and the dry, sunny summer that lasts until mid-April. This combination of forest cover, shade, and late harvest produces limited-supply, highly complex coffee beans each season.

Auromar employs many workers from the Ngöbe-Buglé indigenous group, offering them above-average wages and providing education, literacy, and technical training for adults, as well as after-school activities for their children. Since its inception, Auromar has been committed to improving working and living conditions for its employees. Auromar is a child labour-free enterprise.

THE PROCESS

The Natural (Catalina) process at Finca Auromar involves:

  • 🍒 Cherry Selection — Careful picking at peak ripeness
  • ☀️ Natural Drying — Whole cherries dried with fruit intact
  • 🏔️ Microclimate Advantage — Stable temperatures, minimal fluctuation
  • 🌳 Shade-Grown — Native trees and high-altitude Hass avocado
  • 🌞 Seasonal Conditions — Low humidity December–January, dry sunny summer until mid-April

This combination of forest cover, shade, and late harvest produces limited-supply, highly complex coffee beans each season.

THE CUP

Mango, raspberry, and geranium. A limited-supply, highly complex Gesha from Finca Auromar's Catalina natural process. The combination of forest cover, native tree shade, stable microclimate, and late harvest creates distinctive fruit-forward characteristics whilst maintaining the elegant floral notes characteristic of Panamanian Gesha.

Flavour Notes

  • 🥭 Mango
  • 🍇 Raspberry
  • 🌺 Geranium

What is the roast recency?

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 6-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12 - should we have any left in stock!). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
