Remera is a prize lot of berry-forward Burundian coffee, oscillating between firm apple acidity and big berry notes. Characteristics include pink lady, whipped cream, blackberry, blueberry, silky florals and delightful stone fruit sugars — a harmonious medley with a refined sweetness and acidity, layered with a lovely silky-sweet texture.
THE PRODUCER
Remera Washing Station is led by a close group of friends — Picasso, Zephyrin and Jeremiah — who have spent several years building an innovative supply chain that is unique compared to traditional Burundian routes.
Unusually, these station owners are also farmers at scale: they have planted over 38,000 coffee trees and established an excellent model for producing specialty coffee, whilst remaining deeply committed to their community and to the people they work alongside.
THE PROCESS
The Washed process at Remera Washing Station involves:
- 🍒 Selective Harvest — Cherries are picked at peak ripeness
- 💧 Wet Fermentation — Fermented for 12 hours in water
- 🧪 Dry Fermentation — Further 12 hours dry fermentation in cement tanks
- ☀️ Raised Bed Drying — Laid out for 20–25 days until moisture content stabilises
This extended two-stage fermentation draws out the station's hallmark berry complexity whilst preserving a clean, structured cup.
THE CUP
Remera delivers a vibrant, full-bodied cup with big berry sweetness, bright pink lady apple acidity, and a silky-smooth texture. As the cup cools, the blueberry and blackberry notes deepen, accompanied by gentle stone fruit sugars and elegant florals on the finish.
