Frosted Kiwi is a fantastic washed coffee from Gitesi, Rwanda with loads of acidity and vibrant fruit character. This coffee showcases the best of what Rwandan specialty coffee has to offer β bright, clean, and full of life.
THE PRODUCER
The Gitesi Washing Station is located in the Karongi district of Rwanda's Western Province. The station works with numerous smallholder farmers in the surrounding hills, collecting cherries that are grown at elevations between 1800 and 2000 metres above sea level. The high altitude and cool climate of Karongi create ideal conditions for slow cherry development, resulting in coffees with exceptional clarity and complexity.
THE PROCESS
The washed process at Gitesi involves:
- π Selective Harvest β Only ripe cherries are picked at optimal ripeness
- π§ Depulping β Cherries are mechanically depulped within hours of harvest
- π§ͺ Fermentation β Beans undergo controlled fermentation to break down mucilage
- π§ Washing β Coffee is thoroughly washed in clean water channels
- βοΈ Drying β Beans are sun-dried on raised African beds for even, slow drying
This meticulous process results in a clean, bright cup with excellent clarity.
THE CUP
Frosted Kiwi delivers a vibrant and refreshing cup with loads of acidity. The flavour profile is clean and fruit-forward, with excellent balance and a long, pleasant finish.
Flavour Notes
- π₯ Kiwi
- π΅ Black Tea
- πΈ Florals
- π‘ Yellow Plum
We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
